Private native forestry
From 30 April 2018, Local Land Services assumed responsibility for approvals and advisory services for private native forestry as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to reform the native forestry sector. This aligns the management of native forests on private land with other sustainable land management options by giving landholders a single point of contact for land and private native forest management.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority maintains responsibility for compliance and enforcement of private native forestry.
The government is currently undertaking a major reform of the regulatory and policy frameworks governing native forestry in NSW. This includes a comprehensive review of Private Native Forestry.
The NSW Government has released a Private Native Forestry Review Terms of Reference. The Private Native Forestry Review seeks to balance the sustainable development of the private native timber and agricultural industries while recognising the environmental values of the private forest estate.
All members of the community are encouraged to have their say about the way private native forests are managed by responding to the Private Native Forestry Review Terms of Reference. In particular we seek feedback on how to improve the:
- Private Native Forestry Codes of Practice
- rules and regulations that govern Private Native Forestry
- Private Native Forestry authorisation process
- Private Native Forestry training and advice services.
