Northern Tablelands Chair, Hans Hietbrink
Hans is a high level strategic manager with the ability to facilitate, motivate and achieve results by harnessing the abilities of different stakeholders through collaborative input.
He has a solid background in corporate management as well as local government and a keen interest in natural resource management. He was a former Chair of a regional Catchment Management Authority and was the inaugural Chair of the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services Board.
Hans worked as a corporate management consultant specialising in performance management and development for many years. He designed and facilitated a range of development programs for small and large companies, government bodies and industry associations, in Australia and overseas.
Hans has worked with a diverse range of organisations producing immediate and sustainable improvements to organisational performance through developing and facilitating the implementation of strategic plans, performance management systems, organisational audits and restructures, strategic leadership, and personal skills development for managers and staff.
He is also well versed in the workings of local government and was Mayor of Guyra Shire Council from 2008-2016 until the shire was amalgamated. He worked with representatives of all levels of government to lobby for funding and project support and ensured resources were allocated efficiently and effectively for the benefit of the area and the wider community of Guyra.
As Chair of Border Rivers-Gwydir Catchment Management Authority, he worked closely with board members and staff in establishing strategic plans and natural resource management projects.
Hans also has a long history with the Australian military. He was called up for National Service in 1968 and shortly afterwards transferred to the Australian Regular Army, where he attained the rank of Major. Upon discharge from the Regular Army he joined the Army Reserve and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1982.
